Intermittent crashes during export

Sometimes Video AI will crash in the middle of an export but the ffmpeg process keeps running. When ffmpeg eventually stops, a _temp file is left behind that seems about as large as what a successful export would produce. If I re-launch Video AI at this point, it seems to be doing something (spinning mouse cursor over the VEAI window) and there’s another temp file produced, but this always ends in an error and the 2nd temp file is deleted. I’ve attached logs for both a session that crashed and for the first session after the crash.

This happens intermittently with different files, and re-doing a failed export with the same file & settings can succeed on the 2nd attempt. I’m usually not at the computer when crashes happen but I think they can occur both early and late into the export process.

The source videos are 720p/1080p and 30m+ in length. Mostly I am using Iris Medium + Chronos Fast or Artemis High + Chronos Fast and encoding to ProRes 422 Std.

I first noticed this happening around 5.5.x and it continues with 6.0.1.

Try lowering the max memory % that the app is pulling to see if that helps it run more stable and reduce the crashing.

File>Preferences>Processing

  1. Ensure that your GPU is selected for the AI Processor
  2. Set the max memory to 80%
  3. Set max processes to 1
  4. Save the settings and close the panel.
  5. Re-run your clip through the process that you were trying.
