How to counteract 3x larger file size on Apple Silicon?

I recently switched from Windows to Mac. An issue I’m running into is that when I upscale a video on Mac, the output’s file size is consistently ~3x larger than on Windows. This means it’s too large to transfer to my iPhone. Any advice for how to counteract this effect on Mac?

Below are my system settings:
Hardware Overview:

Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: Mac15,6
Model Number: MRX63LL/A
Chip: Apple M3 Pro
Total Number of Cores: 11 (5 performance and 6 efficiency)
Memory: 18 GB
System Firmware Version: 10151.41.12
OS Loader Version: 10151.41.12

We need the output settings you use: codec, Bitrate, …

Sorry!

Resolution: 250% increase to 2080x3680
FPS: 200% increase to 60 fps
Enhancement: Progressive
Frame Interpolation Model: Apollo
AI model: Proteus
Encoder: H264
Profile: High
Bitrate: Dynamic
Quality Level: High
Audio Mode: Copy
Container: mp4

  1. Are you sure that you use the exact same settings (h264 high) and same video resolution/framerate as on windows?

  2. try h265 with medium rate. This should result in significantly lower file size and still have sufficient quality.

Yes, I am using the same settings. But I’ll follow your advice and lower the settings, thanks!
