I built my present machine around November last year. It is the only machine I use Topaz on and I am obviously the only person using my licence. But I have been asked to activate several times now and there is no reason that I can understand why I need to. I am worried I am somehow going to “run out” of activations even though as I say, I am the only user of this computer, this is the only computer I have running Topaz and I only ever run one instance of it. I am always online when running it too so it is not as if it has not had a chance to verify my licence.

The authentication token will need to be refreshed at times but should last for 6 months. If you are seeing it needing to be renewed more frequently this could be caused by a registry cleaner or anti-virus app clearing it out.
There is not a limit on how many times you activate the app, as you have a lifetime license to the app in the version that you purchased it in.
Thanks Kyle,
I guess I am not used to this method of licence verification since all other apps I use such as Sound Forge Pro, RealPhones, Vegas Pro, etc simply associate the licence with the physical computer and I only need to worry if when I change the physical computer (which for me is about once per decade).
But I now understand the reason it has asked me more than twice - it is because I use Acronis imaging software to maintain a most recent “pristine” image of my hard drive. I may restore the image occasionally - sometimes it is because an update to something caused unintended bad consequences, sometimes even an Nvidia driver update makes something work less optimally than before or introduces a new unwanted issue or sometimes it might be because a particular project might have required the temporary installation of something that I otherwise d not want on my machine. Since going back to the previous literally image only takes 5 minutes of my time and gives me total peace of mind, it is far better for me to do this since I only make images of a “perfect” configuration that works flawlessly.
So clearly what is happening is that restoring my image is removing the latest authentication token. So can I ask what is it better for me to do? If I am restoring my image do I just do nothing and go with the flow - activating as often as Topaz needs me to (which as I say might be four times per year) or could I export the relevant registry entries prior to restoring the image and then import them back into the registry after restoring the image (and if so, what are the relevant registry entries)? It doesn’t really make much difference from my end which I do - it is only really if it makes any difference at your end or not.
Thanks
Based on that workflow of you rolling back to a previous image of the drive you would need to reauthenticate the app as the previous token would be cleared.
In version 6.2 that was just released the Log In workflow has been adjusted and this should make that process a bit easier as you can now link your regular email and use that instead of it having to open the “My Products" page and connect to our servers.
Thanks, I am happily sticking with an older version since I want workflow consistency, it takes a lot of time to get my head around newer versions and I am getting consistency and predictable results with the old version (and have workarounds for what issues I encounter like Aeon errors). I may go to a current version once this massive project of mine is over and I have time to experiment with new versions. But I am happy to know nothing untoward is going to go wrong with the licensing and I will just roll with the activations as it asks for them.
