I’m installing the latest Gigapixel AI and the download speeds from the Topaz servers are throttled down to about 1GB/s … which is brutally slow for an application with 94 components ranging in size from 35MB to 350MB.
I wish I’d noted how long ago I started this installation, 'cause I’d love to be able to report exactly how long it’s taken to import. But I did manage to play through Close to the Edge, Fragile, Parallels and most of The Ladder while waiting for it.
Which is faaaaar toooooo looooooong for an installation!
The same problem occurs when downloading updated data files from the app itself when running.
This is a longstanding issue and really is unfair to people who’ve been using and supporting Topaz apps for years.
This time, I installed the most recent update downloaded from the web page. The updater then downloads the installation files required. 94 of them at a snail’s pace.
But I’ve also noticed similar throttling when updating models, etc. within all Topaz apps.
Just installed Gigapixel AI and I can confirm that the problem still exists. 104 files downloaded (one at a time) at a snail’s pace. There really is no excuse for this as these can easily be placed behind a CDN and downloaded in parallel…
Average download speed of 1-5 MB/s for files up to 2.6 GB in size, so a very, very slow install
Would you mind reaching out to Topaz Labs support so we can grab your installation log files and take a look as to what could be causing the slow model download speeds?
I also just restarted my router, since downloading Topaz apps and models has been terribly slow since a couple of days. I tried a download manager as well, it shifts around between 35 MB/s, 25 Kb/s or completely halts. I did an ISP network speed test, on my ende, everything is fine. Location Austria, Europe

I have just updated Photo Ai, and the download speed limits itself to 1MB/s. It’s horrendously slow and painful. Literally takes hours!
I have a fast pc and my normal download speed is 17MB/s.
I live in the UK.
I have the problem that every time i try to use gigapixel 8.0.0 it downloads the uses models again within the app. this takes ages (we talk about HOURS per Model on a 100mbit connection). Taskmaanger shows me about 0,7mbit download speed for gigapixel.
I’ve downloaded the models on my Mac mini. It took 10 minutes. Now I’m downloading models on my new MacBook Pro M3 and it’s on hour six and 25 of 72 models have downloaded. Hopefully by morning, all 72 models will have downloaded. I have no idea why it’s taking so much longer than it took from the Mac mini.
Update, download was finished this morning, it took about 15 hours to download models but it is working perfectly now.
Yes Im just updating to 8 and its at 3 - 5 mbs a second and taking forever. This is beyond poor, its been going for half an hour or more. Judging from the history of this problem shouldnt it have been fixed by now - does not happen with any other program including Adobe suite …
Same. Download speeds are atrocious. I am on gigabit fibre and downloads are like I am back to using dial-up internet access. Poor download speeds are only with Topaz though.
I also have the same issue. I uninstalled 8.1 and installed 7.x, thinking that it was something with version 8. It will act as if it is downloading the models (slowly) but then stops somewhere between halfway and 2/3 and eventually stops (times out?). I’ve never had this problem until recently, and I am unable to use Gigapixel because of it.
The odd thing is that if I import the image into Gigapixel directly, it seems to work, but if I use “Automate” in Photoshop to send an image to Gigapixel, I get the message that “some models files need to be re-downloaded” and it never completes the download.
