Guidance | Folder Permissions

Upgraded to 8.4.2. Works fine on my laptop but not on my desktop. Double clicking application gives me very brief spinning wheel then nothing. No processes start.

Read elsewhere that I should uninstall, delete everything in Topaz C:\ProgramData\Topaz Labs LLC, then delete all registry files and reinstall. Did that and still nothing.

I believe I solved my own issue. I wanted to know why 8.4.2 was working on my laptop but not my pc. I checked the C:\Program Files\Topaz Labs LLC folders on both. On my pc it was 1.4gb and on my laptop it was only 817mb. Super weird. So I decided to delete the Topaz Labs LLC folder on my pc, and copy the one from my laptop onto my pc. When I tried this it failed because I didn’t have permission. I went into the properties of the parent folder and found it had somehow been set to read only. Also, the creation date was some time in April 2024, which may have been the month/year I originally bought Gigapixel 6. After changing the parent folder access persmission I copied the folder from my laptop to the pc successfully, then ran the program.

And it worked!

Both of these versions were fresh installs, and the pc one hadn’t ever run successfully so I hadn’t even logged in yet. I have no idea why there were two completely different file sizes. I’m still not 100% sure if the issue was the read only folder permission, but that is most likely the culprit. I have a feeling when I uninstalled version 6 it left some files in C:\Program Files\Topaz Labs LLC (I never checked to see if it had been removed after uninstalling) and maybe since the application was removed the read/write permissions had changed.
