I have not updated since V.7.0.0, for one due to being on a restricted amount of download capacity, and not seeing the need for it.
Today I learned 7.3.0 was released, is this correct?
Or is there another most recent release?
And where might I find the information about it?
The reason for not seeing the need to update is because what I need has not yet been included:
The modern (but not fully supported even by Microsoft!!! BAH!!!) .JXL (or JPG XL), nor is .FLIF, .HEIF, .ILBM or even .AVIF fully supported by MS.
I hope, that the latest version of Topaz Gigapixel Pro DOES support it?
I asked for this a wee back, but did not get much of reply on this … .
Hi, I don’t work for Topaz, I’m a user like yourself, as for the different file formats just save as a TIFF and covert the file yourself using one of many free file conversion apps available
Now …
… sure …
… I could install such and keep switching programs …
… but that’s not the optimal idea, is it, good sir?
Precisely.
Also, that is totally NOT a doable thing:
If I want to create an improved picture of X, but have to rely on the SAME FORMAT, how is that an improvement?
More, professional people lately head for things like .JXL, HEIF, etc. more and more, just because of the quality, isn’t it?
Now, if I want to increase the size if a high quality .JXL, but I need to make this .JPG … , I guess you understand where I am heading to, right, sir?
Hence my request/question, good sir.
Hope this helps?
Sammy.
Hi, I understand what you mean however, what you want isn’t possible at this time, besides TIFF is a 16bit lossless file format therefore, if you convert image to a different file type you won’t lose any quality from the TIFF file.
I’ve included a link for Topaz Support so you can ask Topaz directly
More, professional people lately head for things like .JXL, HEIF, etc. more and more, just because of the quality, isn’t it?
If professionals are concerned about quality, they use an uncompressed or lossless file format like TIFF, and then convert into whatever needs to be delivered. Not saying that more formats to work with is a bad idea, but it’s not what quality-concerned people do.
“but it’s not what quality-concerned people do.”
Precisely, sir.
It is illogical to put a HQ picture into a Lo-Q format, as you lose quality.
This is precisely what I referred to, and thus my question came about to add these formats.
… It’s an argument for uncompressed/lossless compression (like ZIP), not for highly compressed images (regardless how efficient they may be). A format like Tiff
One can have optimal quality, and still high compression, sir.
I get various formats such as mentioned, though, FLIF have I not yet encountered.
Now, in order to use GP, I need to or convert these into .JPG, or .PNG, in order to load these into GP.
Converting a HQ picture like a .JXL into either .JPG or .PNG = loss in quality.
Now, I can load the picture, and work on it.
I increase the size, make a few tiny alterations, save it to or .JPG or .PNG, which is Lo-Q … .
I now have a larger, edited, but Lo-Q picture.
I could reconvert this into .JXL … but to what point???
It will not regain the former quality, will it, sir?
And this then, is the issue in my case … .
No work-around for that, is there, sir?
Jpeg has great lossless modes (DNG is based on the Jpeg standard from 1998, in case you didn’t know), but the main drawback will be reduced bitdepth.
Now you say that converting to Jpeg or PNG would yield loss in quality; PNG is lossless and can be more than 8bit, so I’m not really sure why you think it’s reducing quality. Then again, no one said you should use Jpeg or PNG, but Tiff, work uncompressed. Sure, a highly efficient compression can hold more quality at a given bandwidth than an inefficient compression, but it can’t ever hold more than working uncompressed. Und converting to uncompressed won’t lose data, unless you mess up the conversion. “Optimal quality at high compression” is a hard no, “good enough quality” would be more suitable. For optimal(!) quality, uncompressed or lossless would be necessary. Something that Tiff, that everyone here talks about, does.
If you really think the lossless PNG and Tiff are inferior formats to WORK with, I’m not sure that marketing got the better if your understanding of image formats?
Apologies:
1`st Lt Para, 2nd Linie, Marches les Dames, Belgium.
Also severe Asperger’s, being polite is nature of my inner beast, I fear, sir.
.JPG bitdepth: 8 bit.
.PNG: 16 bit.
.JXL: 32 bit.
Also, compression is not so much the ration that affects something, but the format:
Example:
RAR/ZIP/ … is FAR behind on 7z, both in compression ratio as stability.
I am using 7z since 2000, NEVER had an issue with it.
While with RAR and ZIP I had my share of issues.
I get TIFF often as well, and here again my issue reappears:
Converting to Lo-Q, and then being stuck with it, basically, as converting it back makes no sense … .
As for formats to work with:
I can only use those that is handed to me, sir.
If they (the people I do voluntary work for) hand me .TIFF or, God-forbid, a .banana file (grins) … I am stuck with these, no?
You really seem to not know a lot about image formats. I’m not talking about ZIP as a compression for any file, but a compression algorithm available in Tiff files (which can also be found in EXRs). Tiff can be low quality as JXL can, but working uncompressed or lossless (e.g. with the ZIP compression), which is the only thing people try to tell you, can hardly be considered low quality. It’s converting to an intermediate, not to an end-format.
I can only use those that is handed to me, sir.
Sure. And I really want you to use whatever format you see fit, and I also want you to be able to. I chimed in with your comment regarding what professionals want - and I kinda felt dogwhistled there, as a professional working with this software, and just wanted to make sure you understand that we already have what we need: uncompressed data. I would much more understand if it was about EXR
And adding “sir” to every sentence online is hardly polite, it’s more a mix of patronizing and annoying I’m afraid
Hi Lucasp. I don’t believe he means to be patronising, reading his reply it seems his first language isn’t English, also I think he keeps calling you sir because, I believe he thinks you work for Topaz because you have the Topaz video owner after your name.
Besides whatever you say I don’t think you can get through to him because he’s just seemed to be going around in circles with this topic
Army man here, with severe Asperger’s and ADHD, hence the sir, sir.
Also:
Politeness.
I find it important to show respect through politeness.
This is why I greet people as good as I can in their own language:
Russian: добрый день, товарищ. (Goodday, comrade.) Or: Здравствуйте, товарищ. (I wish you health, comrade.)
Hebrew: שלום אחי (Peace, brother.)
Arabic: ٱ سَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ (Peace of Allah be with you.)
Etc.
And it is amazing how people react to such simple thing.
They truly open up, because of this respect given.
Try it, it’s “MAGIC”!!!
It opens doors, and creates a welcoming effect, at the cost of absolutely nothing.
Language:
That is correct, i am Flemish, sir.
As for bit-depth:
A .JPG is an 8 bit so only values of 0-255 for RGB, with a 16-bit file format such as .TIFF, the RGB values can range from 0 - 65,535.
Which affects quality.
Oh, well, sure, sir
I’m Alexander Hamilton, I’m at your service, sir
I have been looking for you
I’m getting nervous
Sir…
I heard your name at Princeton.
I was seeking an accelerated course of study
When I got sort of out of sorts with a buddy of yours.
I may have punched him. It’s a blur, sir.
