That may be where some of your problems are coming from, you should always use convert profile not assign.
Many applications use different gamma settings as Adobe RGB (1998), because it is an old standard, simply assumes a gamma of 2.2 … as a example Lightroom uses its own, Melissa RGB, because gamma 1.8 is closer to what the human eye sees.
I have the same issue. It is exporting the image as black and white instead of color and neither Photoshop nor Bridge are recognizing the ICC profile. I tried both exporting it preserving the original input and also exporting it as a TIFF, both with the same results. It not only is making a color profile unrecognizable by Adobe, it’s making it black and white! How could I possibly be getting this wrong?
