[Fujifilm RAW Color handling] - Color/exposure shift with some RAF files

TOPAZ PHOTO AI has an algorithm moving raw files from LRC and LR to Photo AI for noise reduction and sharpening, and then transporting back to the resident program

FYI: Topaz has been aware since late 2022 that this program does not work with Fuji RAF files generated from the X-Trans sensor. Color correction has been unacceptable and the algorithm is unusable. Using the program with a raw file has obvious advantages according to a number of photo experts. TOPAZ response for FUJI users has been to avoid the algorithm using RAW files and switch to the alternative algorithm.

Fuji users should be aware of this issue before purchasing the program. And TOPAZ should correct the problem and not disregard thousands of FUJI users who wish to use the program to its advertised advantage.

Really bad. TPAI won’t even recognize my x-h2 files as raw. My GFX files are very dark and after denoise is applied, all my presets are unusable inside LRC.

Hello @plinio.pinto @Robkidney,

We are working on adding a RAW Denoise module for X-Trans sensor cameras in the future. This is disabled for now as the RAW noise is not the same as that of the other cameras on the Bayer sensor.

We are also working on improving the color management of these files, as well as the baseline exposure metadata.

WORKAROUND

In the meantime, you can test one of these solution:

  1. Convert the RAF files to DNG. You can use Adobe DNG converter, or Lightroom Classic for example.
  2. Save the files as JPEG or TIFF before sending them to Photo AI. This will avoid any color changes or exposure changes.

POTENTIAL FIX

We will reach out here when a fix is released.
