Frames Appearing to Shift on Render

This doesn’t occur with all files, but I am processing a file that appears to have an interlaced source, and when I render a frame it skips forward to the next frame. This occurs regardless of whether I select progressive or interlace source. Just wanting to clarify that this normal/to be expected, as I was expecting the chosen frame to remain where it is in time. I am uploading a screen recording and logs.

The interlaced source can be causing an issue with jumping as it splits the frames. Is the entire source video interlaced or is it clips thrown together in a timeline that has been exported and brought into Video AI for processing?

I tried replicating this on my end but was not able to do so just yet.

Thanks for your reply Kyle. It has occurred again, this time with a progressive source. This suggests to me that this is an error. The preview window jumps forward by one frame during render. My question is whether it means the rendered video will be misaligned by a frame? Please see new logs and screen recording.

When I render a preview, the preview window jumps forward to the next frame. Does this mean that renders will be misaligned by a frame? This new issue has occurred a few times recently. Previously I thought it was because the source was interlaced. But in this example the source is progressive. Can the issue be corrected? I am including logs and screen recording.

Hi,
I’m experiencing an issue where the render preview shifts frames during playback. Sometimes the shift is by a single frame, other times it’s multiple frames.

Details:

  • The frame offset appears only in the preview of the render—it doesn’t seem to be consistent or tied to a specific setting.
  • This makes it difficult to trust the render preview for quality control, especially when frame accuracy is crucial.
  • I’ve tested this across different versions of the software, and the issue persists.
  • My source footage is [insert format/codec if you want], and I’m running this on a Mac Studio M1.

Could you please advise if this is a known issue or if there’s a workaround to ensure preview frames stay aligned with the source?
Also, does this frame shift affect the final export, or is it limited to the preview only?

Thanks.

Are you able to share 1 or 2 files where this is happening for testing? We haven’t been able to replicate this issue so far in our testing.
