Why will Photo AI not accept a .psd file?

PSD files can have a lot of data that is not image layers. Topaz Photo AI is made to process images and does not handle the transformations contained inside a PSD file.
I would recommend opening the PSD file in Photoshop and processing the image layer with the Filter > Topaz Labs > Topaz Photo AI plugin.
But I want to upsize the image, which I’d disabled in the AI Plugin
We are working on an upscaling plugin for Topaz Photo AI in Photoshop! That will be released in the next 2-3 weeks and will be accessible through the File > Automate menu.
For now, I would recommend exporting the PSD to a TIF and upscaling the TIF once you are done editing the image.

Thank you for this recommendation. I actually figured it out by experimenting on my own yesterday. This is a fine solution.
I intentionally downsized an image, converted it to a .tiff file, then upsized it, and compared it to the original image. Very happy with the result!
I’m looking forward to enlarging a few of my favorite smaller images for printing.
