I would like to ask for advice on how to use the program. If I apply noise filtering to an image taken with high ISO when there is already color noise, the final result in the filtered image is strange. The surface is not uniform, especially in homogeneous areas (white, black, etc.). It’s kind of vague, but that’s not the best word for it! Is it like that or am I doing something wrong?
Sorry for only now replying, very busy. Is it okay if I attach a picture?
The image is ISO8000. As you can see, there are some obscure parts. In the meantime, I tried to change the details a little.
This picture is not so bad, there are worse ones.
I use sRGB workflow from camera to LR to PS, I am having the same strange result, clunky areas with color noise and sometimes CA on edges where it was not visible before.
Could you clarify the original format of the image? Is it RAW or TIFF? If it’s RAW, I’d recommend sending the original RAW file to Photo AI instead of the TIFF, as you can benefit from the RAW Denoise feature, which offers better noise reduction for those kinds of files.
Additionally, for noise filtering, try adjusting the Original Detail slider and increasing it a bit to see if that helps smooth out the uniformity issues in the white/black areas. This can make a noticeable difference in the outcome.
Lastly, could you confirm whether your NVIDIA drivers are up to date? Specifically, the Studio drivers are often more optimized for creative applications like ours, so it’s worth checking if that’s the case.
Its a tiff. I much prefer Capture One’s de mosaicing and colour profile. Have de noise turned off there but there is still some. Driver was up to date. Just downloading yesterdays update now.
The later versions of PAI are performing better!
I’ve been tending to do this (C1->tiff->tpai->C1) as well, especially when the raw needs shadow/highlight recovery before denoise. I have access to a 4060 now so I’ll see whether I still lose whites letting tpai demosaic vs. C1, but this has been a problem in the past. C1 also has a lot more control over color/lighting than tpai but C1 doesn’t export any of it when producing dngs, but does when exporting tifs. I know libraw has a variety of conversion options but I don’t know what settings are used by tpai when demosaicing, and the don’t appear to be tpai-user accessible.
