Feature Improvement | Additional Crop Options

I often crop images, but only very rarely crop images using the original ratio or another of the presets.
It would be great to have the option in Preferences to have Custom be the default.
Perhaps other users might prefer to have another ratio as their default if they are processing a lot of images.

Thanks.

I use the crop function quite often. Currently, I have to wait for Auto-Pilot to go through several steps before I can apply a crop. Since the same Auto-Pilot steps have to be repeated after the crop, it would be nice to be able to start a crop at the outset. It would save considerable time in my workflow.

I see, at the moment Autopilot has to run before and after the crop which takes a lot of time. We’re exploring the option to have Autopilot completely turned off which would allow you to crop right away but I realize that you might still want it on and just be able to crop first.

Crop would be the only feature that’s enabled before Autopilot since all the other ones require the detection models to complete. For that reason though, it might be overkill to rewrite the structure of the app to change the order of the processing.

Hi

Love PhotoAi (and its cousins sharpen and denoise for for stubborn pics). Keep it up!

Please can you “enable” image cropping immediately when switching to a new image rather than after “subject detection / autopilot setting determination” has been completed.

I’m trying to optimise my workflow around PhotoAi (using RAW) and have started utilising the crop feature In PhotoAI rather than doing it later in PS. Doing cropping at this point obviously speeds up PhotoAi processing time on my midrange desktop and allows for upscaling of my image with the highest quality information (if required).

Kind regards

Tristan

If processing seamless tiled textures, crop needs to be the last step in the process otherwise it defeats the purpose of tiling which is to avoid edge warping.

Hi
It will be great if Topaz AI can also recommend Crop using AI.

if i have multiple photos loaded and i want to replicate the edits from one to the other - it only allows thru setting a preset and using . Instead it may just be a temporary one for that set of photos and it willbe great if we have a cut and paste option between photos. Also the crop can also be included in this copy and paste. Right now even presets dont allow to store the crop ( which i understand why for a preset). But copy and paste options for similar looking consecutive shots ( specially for birding), will be very very useful feature to have

When using Photo AI under LrC, if would be great to (have an option to) export the crop (and even better the geometric edits like vertical tilt).
Perhaps as a default setting under the crop tool - automatically replicate the crops in the original photo.

i shoot mainly wildlife and as such there is generally some cropping to be done, it would greatly speed up my workflow if i could delay autopilot until crop has taken place, even if this option was available as a preference as not everyone would make use of it
Thanks

Putting crop first would speed up processing. Not only would you have smaller files to analyze, but it also would eliminate having to pan across a large image unnecessarily. I also would prefer if you would save my cropping preferences. I almost always crop to a square image for posting. Thanks.

Provide crop dimensions and preferably a memory of a crop box size so I can apply the same size as before to a new image.

Also - the subject recognition should happen after cropping. I find a small bird cannot be detected as subject now even if I have cropped it out, I need t define it. Also, be consistent in the different enhancements, unless I edit it, as to what the subject is. I find the computer has not always identified the subject correctly.

In the crop options, there’s an option to select keeping the original ratio, “custom” which just lets you freely crop independently in each direction, or a selection of specific crop ratios.

I have a particular obsession with the Golden Ratio, and often tend to try to crop my images to fit Golden Rectangles.  It would make me happy if the Golden Ration was among the built-in ratios. It can be roughly defined as 1:1.618; or more precisely calculated as 1:(0.5+√1.25).

Perhaps even better, yet, would be to allow users to edit the list of prefabbed ratios, to include those of their choice, and to remove those for which they have no use.

When you’re cropping, click the lock icon to the right of the ratio dropdown. You’ll be able to set a custom ratio.

You seem to have misunderstood what I am asking for.

I know how to set the cropping on an individual image, while I am working with it.

What I want is for the Golden Ratio to be among these options permanently offered to me in this drop-down.  I want to be able to edit this list, to include those aspect ratios that I want to use on a regular basis.

Got it, thanks for clarifying. We’ll see if we can integrate that into a future release.

Just wished that the cropping tool would be unlocked by default and we are not forced every time to unlock it out of a fixed ratio. Also, looking forward to the new version being able to change the orientation like the beta does. However the cropping on the beta is off.

I often need to crop pictures of distant birds from an otherwise empty blue sky. Knowing that super focus wants a 6k or greater shot, it would be helpful to see the dimensions of the proposed cropped area as one uses the cropping tool. There is already a place to show this: the field currently used to show the pre-cropping dimensions (which one probably knew before embarking on the edit).

Cheers

the crop tool.
it would be very usefull to be able to unlock the crop tool in preferences and it stay unlocked.
when i have 80-100 action shots of a hurling game and they all need to be cropped individualy with the crop tool unlocked.now i have to unlock it for each photo.
thanks
