Faded colors in Photo AI

Recently I have found that when I import RAW files into Photo AI the colors in the image are quite faded by comparison with the original photograph. I’m unable to fully recapture the original colors through subsequent processing of the image in Lightroom. I’m hoping that Topaz will soon be able to rectify the problem as it does detract greatly from the utility of the software.

The only chance it may get rectified is if examples are posted of outputs vs originals. There are a number of reasons why the colours could differ from expectations:

  • Problems with processing raw files from specific camera models/vendors.
  • Colour profiles applied to the raws differing greatly from the profiles applied by LR (Topaz won’t have access to the Adobe profiles).
  • Colour management issues affecting the preview in TPAI (not in this case if you are looking at the output back in LR).

I think profile differences are the most likely explanation, so you’ll need to show the problem to have any hope of getting it “fixed”.

Hi Alan. Thanks for your prompt response to my inquiry. I’m willing to provide some comparisons of original raw images with outputs obtained with Photo AI, but I’m not sure how to go about doing so. Perhaps I could produce a PowerPoint file, with each slide incorporating a comparison, but where would I then post the file?

Images can inserted into a forum post (there is an upload button in the UI where you write the post). For larger files that exceed forum limits you could share a Dropbox/GoogleDrive/OneDrive link. If you create a PowerPoint, I would recommend exporting it as a PDF.

Also, it might be a good idea to create a post in the “Bugs and Issues” sub-forum for a better chance that a dev will look at it (there is pinned post on how to report issues).
