Export Improvement | Ability To Save As JPG or TIF

For those of us that wish to keep consistency with existing naming schemes on our computers, the option to always use JPG instead of the current JPEG option would be very useful. Having dissimilar extensions causes all kinds of sorting nightmares.

Having to go through and change file extensions from JPEG to JPG by hand or using the terminal is another needless step. Please add the option of saving with the JPG extension.

Almost a year since this was posted.
And no movement towards a change.
This is not the mountain to die on — jpeg may be correct but most programmes use jpg.
PLEASE offer the choice to your users. PLEASE.

JPG is the correct and desired format, obviously.

What’s up with this JPEG business? Adobe making the same mistake using JPEG as default export in Bridge. Crazy…

It is the same with .tiff instead of .tif

Of course it is :woman_facepalming:

If your starting file is JPG, you can use the Preserve Input format to keep JPG.

This is not helpful in my case though, since I convert from PNG to JP(e)G,

so changing the file names from JPEG to JPG is an extra work step that simply could be avoided with Topaz offering to save to JPG in the first place.

Some of my camera equipment outputs files as .jpg files and add them straight into projects while my team work on other aspects. While I understand you can output .jpeg the problem is that some of the files I run through Photo AI are already inside projects. As a result, I have to change the file extension of each output file.

Could there be an option to export as jpg alongside jpeg. I know it’s a simple thing but it would literally save me a step in my workflow. Thanks

Hi! You can use Name Mangler (Name Mangler · Many Tricks) in case you are using Mac

I dont understand I asked if you could integrate a simple option not to use 3rd party solution where its just as simple as outputting a different file extension. Can you implement it?

The person who replied to you was another user offering a workaround. There is a export dialog rework planned and we’ll keep your feedback in mind when designing it. Thank you!

also sorry didnt see I thought you were with the dev team. I do use Bulk Rename Utility for Windows and it works fine but trying to minimise steph. Thanks though mate.

It is not a bug but it could be very useful to be able to save the processed images with the extension .jpg and not only .jpeg ! The resulting image will be the same but for classification reasons the .jpg extension will be very appreciated.

Thanks

I was wondering if it would be possible to include an option for the JPEG file extension to be jpg as well as jpeg?
I’m batch processing large amounts of files and the only option is JPEG.
But I want to overwrite the originals, which are JPG.
So the easiest solution would to be it in Topaz Photo rather than rename them afterwards.
I see there are other requests for the same feature — please consider it.
Thanks !!

This is good news. Any idea on a time frame for implementation?

I made a batch file that will rename all files with the jpeg and tiff extension to jpg and tif in the path of the batch file and all sub folders: rename jpeg and tiff.zip (321 Bytes)

Great - that may help one or two Windows users — but some of us use Mac.
I see you keep offering this same solution — when it’s not a solution.
The real solution is simple — make it an option in the software.
By the way, I can do that on my Mac — it’s software 101.
But that’s not the point — I have paid good money for software that doesn’t do the most basic of things properly — keep the original file extension.

Please forward this to Topaz. I am just a regular user who tries to temporary help where I can. :eyes:
