Enhancement Improvement | Opacity Option For Selection

It would be beneficial to be able to adjust the brush opacity. For example, so as to be able to reduce the amount of sharpening or noise reduction where the preview shows over sharpening or blurring of detail in some areas but not others.

Do you mean being able to adjust the strength of the individual filters like sharpen and denoise or the “redness” or transparency of the mask itself?

Yes Tim. At the moment I create a Topaz layer in Affinity photo so I can mask out any areas that don’t work out so well. Being able to do the same by adjustment the strength of the mask in Topaz photo ai, rather than mask or no mask, would be really cool.

Tim,

PS. If I was unclear, I mean the opacity of the red.

You can change the brush overlay in the Preferences > General menu.

Thank you Tim, that is good to know. I had not seen it because I had not been looking for it. In turn, that was because it had not been mentioned on YouTube. However, changing the preference did not seem to affect the strength of the brush, or if it did, it was hard to tell in the small window. Helpful though this preference could be, it would be good if it was dynamic as a slider, like the brush size slider, and the mask, and its opacity, is visible in the main window.

Best wishes,

David

If you’re talking about the strength of the filter in the masked area, you can control that by opening the filter itself and adjusting the sliders. The opacity of the red mask itself is not indicative of the strength of the filters.

“The opacity of the red mask itself is not indicative of the strength of the filters.” And I am suggesting that it would be a good idea if it was. Instead of the filters having a global effect within the mask they could have a varied effect.

BTW I am aware of the current functionality of the filters; I have been a Topaz user for a few years.

Best wishes,

David

Ah I see what you mean now.

Hello,

under the option “Remove Object” in Photo AI, the only available brush is a ball-shaped one. This might be oke for the majority of users, for me it’s a daily source of frustration and annoyance.

As I have to remove long, straight-lined objects and/or objects with a 90 degree angle in it multiple times a day, having only a round removal-brush available is pure h#ll.

Is it possible to add some additional brushes in Photo AI, like for exemple a square, a (long) bar or a triangle with a 90 degree angle in it? Would be very helpfull.

Thanks, from a happy Topaz-user,

JQ

Hi JQ.

Have you tried the other Selection Tools for instance you can choose between the Superpixel, Standard, or Object Selection brushes.

Here’s a brief description for each I’ve pasted from the Topaz Documentation

The Superpixel brush detects the boundaries between objects and backgrounds and makes educated guesses about which areas should be masked.

The Standard brush is a regular masking brush.

The Object Selection brush is similar to Superpixel except it is specifically tailored for identifying and selecting entire objects.

Hope this helps

I would love an option to reduce the opacity on a brush - to use a little bit of it in areas instead of on/off

Certainly Opacity and Flow would be fantastic options if Topaz decided to implement them.

Adding to my previous reply are you aware that when using any of Selection Brushes you can use the keyboard shortcut key Alt / Option to switch between Paint and Erase " + & - " options

Hi, the dumb selection tool, is a great improvement, but it misses opacity.
It’s not a true alpha mask.
We need true alpha mask back.
Because when using sharpening I often apply the full effect on eyes, and less opacity to the hairs for instance
Also, the brush feathering helps to get better transition
