Enhancement Improvement | Adaptable & Trainable Dust & Scratch Repair

Dust and scratch repair doesn’t work all that well in my experience. While some non-Topaz products work better (IMO), they all lack one thing - they don’t learn. Meanwhile, I spend at least 30 minutes/digitized slide or negative removing dust, scratches, or other blemishes if I decide I want to present it as a print.

Why not craft a dust & scratch function that trains on my judgement as to what constitutes a dust particle or an emulsion scratch? I’m putting in lots of time and effort that could be used to train an AI in the background while I bring my scanned classic content up to snuff. I would really love the automated help to learn from me.

I think there are many who would count a trainable, increasingly effective dust/scratch repair AI as well worth buying. How about it, Topaz?

The concept of a trainable Dust & Scratch repair model that adapts to your judgment over time is something we can definitely see resonating with photographers and archivists working with scanned film and slides. We’ve shared your suggestion with our development team for consideration as we continue to improve the toolset in Topaz Photo.

If you haven’t already, we’d love for you to share your experience in this dedicated community thread:

Hearing more about what works (and what doesn’t) helps us fine-tune future improvements.

Thanks again for taking the time to share your insight!
