yes, SSD are still expensive , expecially if we want it for stockage or have a big one, and it’s not error or fail free. i sold my m.2 970 to someone who had his TWO 970 plus who died at the same time ! the difference is that an SSD will not die from mechanical fealure because there isn’t, but they are still electronic gear, and like any electronic gear , it can die.
about novice don’t get me wrong, I was telling an example between a normal user like us, and a use in a server, where they write data on SSD all the time all the day at an insane level. even if among us, there are professional who use them extensively, we’re still very far from a server use in a data center.
I already resold the drive, but still have a 980 here that i must test. took me sometime to find the issue as i’m trying to build a new computer. after testing only the 970 in my old / actual computer, my brain/ears exploded lol. and every people who listened to it here heard nothing, but a sound is there. i thought I was crazy until i found a crazy amount of people on youtube/reedit/hardware forums, where they had issue with 970 plus Nmve ! they got an answer from samsung telling that in some case, the Nmve when next to the cpu, sometimes the Cpu can make a piezo electric effect (lol …) and so it catch the nmve issue and make a noise. lol. just type
“samsung 970 plus nmve coilwhine” or “noise” in google search, you’ll be surprised !
Toby - thanks for the update! Very much appreciated. For the slowness compared to 2.6.4 with the same video, could you share with me the 50mb video so I can test it on an M1 Ultra Studio? Also, could you share with me the logs from 2.6.4 and alpha using the same models & settings with the same video?
Imo - I couldn’t reprodcue this on any of our Windows machines but we’re going to apply changes to the video reader and we expect this to fix it for you. Please let us know if you continue to run into this in the next alpha. Thank you
The ghosting issue with Proteus when using Auto settings has been fixed in alpha 20 that we released Friday afternoon. Please make sure you’re using 3.0.0.20a
Hi - thanks for brining this up again. @lee.keels is right about it and the software is currently just using the default. Just letting you know we’re looking into this.
Robin - this ghosting issue should already be fixed in alpha 20. Though, this was only happening with Auto settings - at least based on what several beta testers and I run into. Please let me know if you’re still running into this issue when using manual settings.
