Dng files won't open in Lightroom or Photoshop

I recently processed a group of photos in Photo AI then opened them in Lightroom for further editing. Most of them worked fine, but there were several that although the thumbnail was in Lightoom, when I clicked on it, it was a black screen with a very small white dot at the center. When I tried to open it in Photoshop, it said the file format was not supported. They open fine in Windows photo viewer and like I said, the thumbnail shows up as well as any edits made in Lightroom.

Steps to reproduce issue:

1. Step 1 - process a group of photos (I think I had about 50) using the autopilot feature in Photo AI
2. Step 2 - Open Lightroom and click on the thumbnail for those processed photos
3. Step 3 - some open just fine, but several show up as a black screen
