Discussion | Remove Hot Pixels & RAW Noise

Using PhotoAI 4.0.3 either stand along or launched from Faststone Image Viewer 8.1
Processing some RAW format files from my Canon R5 Mark II (with uptodate firmware) on my Window 11 - see dxdiag attached
DxDiag.txt (145.8 KB)
Steps to reproduce
open RAW file
add Sharpen
change model from Standard to Lens Blur II or Refocus… depending on the model, more or less red pixels will be added
See screenshots attached

I can share the original RAW file if it’ll help (but it is 62MB so I won’t add it right away)

Try increasing the denoise. Even try strong, too.
In looking over some of my shots (birds in the shade are always going to be tough) and your first image, there is a lot of color noise in the raw. If this isn’t removed prior to sharpening then the various sharpening models will pick up various aspects and try to accentuate them.
Different models will attempt to emphasize different image features - I have a cardinal in the sun where standard looks good but refocus is insistent on emphasizing the highlights which basically turns the head white.
Google tells me that’s a bay-breasted, which tells me I’m never going to figure out female warblers in the fall.
