Please don’t phase out the old versions - maybe rename them. When I try V2 the images look fake. Oversharpening on the edges and smoothing in subject details. I’m also finding in fur it smooths out the fur instead of holding onto detail.
In the middle of this I updated, you had moved to V2 and removed the old versions. I think you may have improved it but, and this applies to the old and V2 versions… one of the big issues is the AI sharpening subject used with Strong V2. You have to go in and clean up the AI selected subject, it grabs a lot of unnecessary extras… that is where I’m seeing the worst of the haloing and moire. I also have to go in and bring back the recommended strengths on everything. Then after processing going into Lightroom and bringing down the texture and clarity of the image. After a few trials, I feel like it’s better to bring the image in unedited from Lightroom and edit after topaz AI has been applied.
I haven’t had a chance to try this on fur yet. In the past V2 had some major issues with smoothing out fur.
One last request… would it be possible to add an on/off checkbox for the sharpen subject selection, like in Lightroom? It would make it easier to fine tune the selection rather than applying it and then having to go back in to fine tune the selection more.
Thanks,
Heather
I ran a smartphone photo I shot at my polling station this afternoon through Topaz Photo AI. It autoselected Sharpen V2 and Face Recovery filters. I’m not happy about the extra line around the man walking up the hall. For comparison, I changed the sharpening filter from V2 to Motion Blur. In my opinion, Motion Blur gave better results overall, though still didn’t do much for the backlit man walking up the hall. You can see screenshots I made of the results:
You’re using an outdated version of Topaz Photo AI and I would say upgrade to Topaz Photo Studio but, that’s entirely up to you to decide.
Also, you can either update to a newer version of Topaz Photo AI because, it has a few more new models to choose from Lens Blur V2, Natural and Refocus if you have access to one or continue as you have been using one of the other Enhancements Motion Blur or Lens Blur.
Besides, this behaviour should be expected given the poor quality of the original image
Note. Taking photos in a voting/polling place is not lawful. It could be construed as a serious privacy issue. If in the US, voting places are indoors & not considered “public” spaces - therefore privacy of subjects requires releases for any photos & sharing of recognizable people. Street photography would be a different matter - in the US.
