Discussion | Avoiding Glossy Plastic Look On Wildlife (Red Kite) Image

Hi folks

Having spent the afternoon capturing 40+ red kites when I am processing from LRC into Topaz Photo the result is hyper glossy almost artificial.

Usually just a denoise and subject sharpen creates great results. I am wondering what may have changed in the latest version to cause this or whether there are any particular settings to stop this.

Kit is OM1 Mk ii, 300mm f4 lens which is pretty much as good as it gets in the MFT world.

Thanks

Nice camera system. I’m still using an Olympus E-P5. Most of my shots are with either the Lumix 20mm f/1.7, or the Zuiko 75mm f/1.8. I’ve acquired a bunch of other lenses (up to 300mm with a 1.4 teleconverter), but they are mostly just collecting dust lately. I still cherish my manual Zuiko 50mm f/1.4 from my film camera days, but it’s not getting much love these days. I really should go out and shoot something with it again.

Here’s an old image from 2012 that I just reprocessed with Topaz Photo 1.1.1. It doesn’t seem too glossy.

E-PL2 with Olympus Digital 70-300mm at 300mm, F/5.6, ISO 1000, 1/200 sec

and the unprocessed original

Can you share the original image so we can test? It’s probably just a matter of choosing the right settings.
