Denoising jpg

Hello
I usually work with RAW data, but I have some smartphone jpg which I want to partially denoise and upscale an little.
Yet, the “partially” part doesn’t quite work. What I did is this: After opening the picture I add several denoising layers and use the masking tools to mask just those areas which I want to get some denoising. For the overall/general mask I define 0 denoising.
However, still the nonmasked areas are denoised. How can I effectively avoid this?

I know the .jpg is lossy but if you convert it to an .png or an .tif you won’t have to worry about any more quality loss while working with the image.

I read somewhere here on the forum that this is a bug for certain versions. Which version are you using? You may want to contact support.

Thank you for your idea, but I cannot imagine that converting a jpg to another lossy format will be very helpful. Or have you has different experiences?

Since I downloaded Photo AI just some days ago, I suppose I have the newest version.

The main problem here is not the overall loss of detail in the photo. The problem is how Photo AI handles the masks, and why the zeroed mask is still used for denoising. I think this is a bug indeed. Considering the software’s price I am hoping for better.
