Crashing on Mac OS Sonoma!

Is anyone experiencing this? I mean catastrophic failure where it bricks my iMac for about 10 minutes. I’m guessing there must be some sort of either memory leak or it buries the processors. I have an 3.6 GHz 10-Core Intel Core i9, AMD Radeon Pro 5500 XT 8 GB, 64 GB 2667 MHz DDR4 and I’m lucky if I can get through 1 30 second clip without it crashing.

Is Topaz working on a patch for this??

Topaz can do nothing with your hardware issue. Please, find any monitoring utility, which will report temperatures of your computer hardware and also run any burn-in test for full resource load. Probably it is usual HW instability on high load, which can occurs on any platform.

Everything worked normally before the upgrade to Sonoma. Perhaps Topaz can work on a patch for the new OS. VAI is absolutely useless to me since I can’t get through one single upgrade before it bricks my computer. Every other peice of software works just fine including Adobe products that I use. Topaz CAN do something to correct this issue as more users upgrade to Sonoma.

It can’t be a general Sonoma problem.
Because (apart from lacking speed with Iris and the known shortcomings of the 4.x versions) TVAI works stable here on a MacBook with M1 Pro as well as a Mac Studio with M2 Ultra, both running MacOS Sonoma.

Maybe it’s related to the Intel CPU or the AMD GPU?

Did you monitor the temps of CPU/GPU?
Those older Intel Macs have a tendency to overheat due to Intels inefficient design combined with the small form factor and Apples tradition of turning the fans on/faster as late as possible.

Hey Jo.vo thanks for the message.

Up until last weekend I was using TVAI for well over a year with no issues on the same machine I’ve used since 2020. Once I upgraded to Sonoma, TVAI has been very unstable and crashes every time I use it, so it has to be software related to the Sonoma upgrade. It’s an Intel iMac and there have been no changes to hardware. I would encourage Topaz do more R&D on this version of TVAI and see where they can patch the issue.

My guess is it’s clipping either the GPU or there’s a memory leak somewhere. All other software, Adobe PS, Audition, Logix Pro X and Davinci Resolve work flawlessly under heavy load and rendering. I hope this helps.

Thank you
