I’ve been running into CPU overheating issues and so have been watching temps regularly. I just had the CPU replaced and initial tests proved successful. Things like gaming and exporting from Lightroom no longer push the CPU into throttling. However, with PhotoAI, seconds after I click “Export” the temps go into the 80’s and the processor throttles down causing a slow experience. Resting temps are between 29 and 33 degrees Celsius. Thanks for any help you can provide.
Steps to reproduce issue:
run photoAI (It begins overheating and throttling down the cores after a few images are exported)
As long as your PC is still running fine the high temperatures are not necessarily worrying. the CPU’s are made to run at high temperatures nowadays. the 5 k iMac 2014 CPU ran at 99 °C. The latest generation of Intel CPU’s have a working temperature of 100 °C . They are made to run up to 125 °C (not recommended though). Also CPU’s for mobile computers are made to run hotter du the limited cooling abilities.
I disagree with this assessment. The CPU is designed to throttle itself down when the temps reach 80 degrees Celsius. That is why the numbers are red in Hardware Monitor. If you use the Intel tool for the CPU it has a field for when the processor throttles down. It happens 100% of the time when the temps reach 80. At best, the system slows down greatly, taking much longer to perform its tasks while also stressing the system in that longer timeframe. It’s also not a laptop. Just because they can achieve more heat does not mean it’s a good thing to do so. I’m also raising the question as to why it appears to only be this app that is now causing the heat to rise to the point where my system gets loud and slows down.
Try to run a i9 13900K with no throttle. Even with a large water cooling it will run hot and throttle at full load. The tiny surface of the processor is just not able to get rid of the heat faster no matter how large the cooler is.
This is incorrect. The i7-11700KF can reach up to 100°C operational (and take peak spikes up to 128°C) without throttling (PROPER cooling solution, case, housekeeping, ect.).
Sadly, you do not give enough info to thoroughly troubleshoot your issue (out-looking-in just doesn’t cut it), though, but IMO, just going off your OG post, you have bigger issues happening.
You were already having thermal issues before you replaced the OG CPU with this one, ect.
Also, just because a few apps (games, ect.) are MASKED as running with no issues, does not mean that your rig is stable.
To-dos:
Have you check the MB for any BIOS updates?
Have you run Intel’s tool? (3rd-party monitoring apps are not always reliable).
When you replaced the CPU, what thermal paste did you replace it with?
Did you double- triple-check how you reseated the CPU?
Did you check for bent pins on the CPU?
What’s your cooling solutions… on & on… and that is just the beginning
of small things to confirm what is exactly is going on with your rig before you conclude its a Topaz issue.
