Colour cast (magenta) using RAW denoise normal but NOT strong

Using Canon EOS R3 Raw converted in LR classic to DNG. File > Plug-in Extras > TPAI.

In TPAI apply RAW denoise normal > magenta cast. Changed to strong and cast disappears. Minor deblur set to one for RAW normal and strong.

Addendum - pushed the Raw Denoise strong above 5 and magenta cast also appeared

Would you mind sending in some more information to get a better understanding of the problem you are having with this particular type of image? Please send the following information:

  1. The original image file.
  2. The processed image.
  3. A screenshot or description of the settings panel so I can see what adjustments were turned on.

You can securely submit your image(s) to my Dropbox using the link below.

Please be sure to send me a note to let me know you sent something.

Thanks John

I have just uploaded the images to your Dropbox File Request. I chose a different photo as is lighter to hopefully easier to see the cast.

In answer to your questions:

  1. The original image file = ML246958
  2. The processed image. = ML246958-3 which shows a red/magenta cast
  3. A screenshot or description of the settings panel so I can see what adjustments were turned on. From LR classic: File > Plug-in Extras > TPAI > Edit a copy

I have attached screenshots of not enhance, enhanced using Standard RAW and Strong RAW which to me shows the cast in both. That in Strong at strength 1 there is no cast but the cast gradually increases as the strength increases.

I am using Win11 23H2

Martin

I’d like to get some more informaiton about the machine you are using where this color shift is occurring as I was not able to replicate this color shift on my machine. Please send me your system profile information so I can check if your computer hardware is up to date.

Thanks

DxDiag attached.

Its interesting that you could not reproduce the issue. The red cast does not occur with all my photos taken on the same camera body/lens combination.

Could it be that these photos being deliberately under exposed (due to the subject matter being a white bird against a dark background which otherwise would lead to over exposure of the bird) is a factor?

Thanks for sending in that information.

I want to see if updating your GPU driver will resolve the problem, as there is a more up-to-date driver that has been released.

Please use the following link to update your driver: Intel | Driver Update

After the update, let me know if you are still experiencing the problem.

Thanks

Just updated the Intel driver (Intel® Graphics Driver 32.0.101.5768 gfx_win_101.5768) as link below.

Unfortunately, still getting a red cast on that photo. I also tried another photo with no EV compensation and too there was a hint of a red cast. Not as pronounced but I could just discern a slight cast.

Would you mind taking a screen recording of this behavior so I can see exactly what is happening? I’d like to share this information with the developers for further investigation.

Loom is a great free application for this: Loom | Free Screen & Video Recording

Thanks

I hope I’ve done this right!

Sent video via your Dropbox just now.

I used the same image (Little Egret) to show original and during processing the red cast happening with both RAW normal and RAW strong. That the cast was more pronounced on increasing the strength but was still present even at lower levels.

Martin

Thanks for trying to send in that video file, it appears that there was an error with the Loom recording and I was not able to open the file from my Dropbox, would you mind trying this again?

Let me try again!

Link below and again sent to you via your Dropbox account.

FYI – If I use TPAI in PS (I export to PSD) denoise creates no colour cast.

Thanks for sharing this information, I have included these files and Loom videos for our developers to review and see if we can get any more information as to why this might be occurring. I will be sure to reach out to you here on this Forum thread once we have more information.

Thank you so much for your help

Have a great weekend

I too am noticing this, just opened a .cr2 file direct from disk in TPAI 3.1.3 and with no other setting changed I immediately get a colour cast.

still happens with TPAI 3.2. Not relly clear what the new features do regarding Canon RAW improved colour accuracy given the magenta cast. Anyhow to let you know, John wrote back to me (2nd Aug) saying he will let me know when this is fixed.
