Canon R5 Mark II Currently Not Supported | v3.2.0 and below

I have a Canon R5 MK II, R5 and R7. Not being able to process the RF Mk II files in Topaz Labs Photo AI and several other applications remains a sore point. I use primarily on a Mac, but the same issues persist for me.

I have DXO and they support the Cain R5 MK II, and although I don’t use it but have it, I believe L, rethinking my continued support for Topaz if making top camera support cannot be a top priority based on support through LibRaw third party open source software that is unfortunately updated on a far too infrequent basis.

Getting ready for Fall sessions and preparing to eliminate Topaz from my workflows for now, I prefer not going through the work arounds.

FastRawViewer uses the same lib I think, and it has had R5 II support for weeks now, with Beta version maybe it was. Really it’s just Topaz behind now I think, vs everyone else.

Edit: Actually testing what someone else said, opening in Photoshop 2024 as smart object, then if I run filter to open in Topaz Photo AI, it works. But… idk if it’s the BEST quality it could be or not, who knows.

Obviously I meant Canon and not Cain lol

Topaz, when will this be fixed? If not by renewal time, I will not renew and move on to others. Topaz doesn’t even rate a top ten in PCMag’s reviews. Why ccan’t this be done. If you are waiting for someone else to fix YOUR software, that is not a good position to be in!!

why is every image i now add to topaz got a pink overlay??

Topaz Photo AI [v1.x.x] on [Windows/Mac]

How is it that most have the R5 MKII profile updated in their software but Topaz does not, very troubling. WHy did they not have to wait for a LibRaw file to be published… over 30 days now.

Unfortunately, the most recent update does not include the Canon R5 Mark II support and the DNG workaround will still be needed as LibRAW did not update their list yet.

Our team did receive a notification recently from the LibRAW beta team that they are testing this camera in their beta support process which means their next update will support it which will be supported by Photo AI following this update.

This Community Forums Thread link has been included with an open development ticket and we will be sure to update the users here once the version is released. We appreciate your patience and feedback during this process, if you ever need any additional information or support you can send us an email at help@topazlabs.com.

Using Topaz (latest) with the R5 Mark is as a LR plugin or stand alone

When I import files with either method the images look like they have a light purple colour across the whole frame.
Upon export that same colour is exported.

Anyone else having the same problem?

That’s because Topaz has yet to update their RAW processing for the Canon R5 MKll, ironically they have just sent me a mail telling me that I can save money on the next update provided I lock myself into a subscription which kind of leaves a bad taste in my mouth as I’d quite like the current version to support one of the most anticipated Cameras of 2024…

I note that DXO Pure Raw now supports the latest RAW file formats from Canon. Although in fairness to Topaz you do need to upgrade, but it’s a one off payment and not these flipping subscription based approaches thet everyone seems to be going for.

Steve

I thought that was likely the case but wanted some sanity checks.

Hopefully we will see it soon as it means I’m relying on LR/PS and DxO for this body

I also had that email. I wonder if we can have 1 month free :joy:

Appreciate your quick reply sir.

It appears that Topaz, unlike Adobe and DxO, rely on a third party (LibRaw) to provide raw file support for their products. LibRaw, according to their website, is “distributed free of charge and with open-source code…” Most open source projects are maintained by volunteers so there is no business incentive for the LibRaw developers to expeditiously release profiles for new cameras. More likely, they’ll get to it as time permits.

This dependency places a huge disadvantage on Topaz. Topaz is placing all their raw processing eggs in the basket of open source software likely maintained by volunteers. And since Topaz (likely) has no monetary relationship with LibRaw, there is probably little influence they can exert to bring that support quickly.

If Topaz delays updating their program so we can use the Raw files from Canon EOS R5 Mark II, then should we not get a refund or extension on our subscription as we are paying for a service we cannot use? If Adobe and DXO can update then…

I installed 3.2.2

I have tried to use as a plugin for lightroom, and individually. I am using it with RAW files. The program is working with older RAW files, but if I try to use it with new .CR3 files from canon R5 mark II, I am getting a DNG error on lightroom, and the exported file from the program is pink (the screen of selection)

I am using on a MAC, there have been no issues prior to this.

FYI for those wondering I emailed topaz help and they gave me 3 months of free subscription and confirmed that you can turn off auto-renew at any point so I went ahead and reupped. Still looking at alternatives to support my R5MII but at least was able to lock in the preferred pricing in the meantime.
