When I open Photo AI, the top right hand coner has a message saying 5 updates are available. After clicking that ti says install. when that is clicked the entirs screen goes off along with the Photo AI program.
Please help me to update my Photo AI version.

Please get a full installer from the downloads page and use it to update:

Updating this way will fix the in-app updater for future updates.
