Chronos is sufficient for watching movies.
Just don’t expect slow-motion quality, because then you’ll see the artifacts.
Logically, it’s faster because it only calculates 1 intermediate frame, which results in both high speed and medium accuracy.
Apollo always does 8, Aion always does 16 – no matter how much you need.
Imagine you have to draw a curve with just a few points. When will it be rounder/more accurate?
When you use many points instead of just a few. That’s the point.
Logical, since there is no model for this, and it would be very complicated.
Even more difficult than my perfect 3x slow motion, which I would like to have.
Now you have two options at 24 fps.
Either you do a PAL speed-up to 25 fps, for example with the program Shutter Encoder:
This is extremely fast, since only the ‘time stamps’ are rewritten.
No image change:
The sound then becomes 4% faster – artists in the music industry don’t like that…
Or, if your TV supports 48 Hz, you could also do it with Chronos… give it a try.
Between us:
By the way, I’m also sick and tired of all the jerky junk (23.98; 24; 25; 29.97, 30).
Large images need more resolution than small ones, including temporal resolution…
but humanity has developed a 24 fps fetish—due to the long consistency of this parameter in cinema …
Best regards
Totally agree. 24fps is an absolutely ridiculous frame rate to be making modern movies in.
That’s exactly what I do now. Shutter encoder to 25fps and then go to 50fps with chronos. My tv only has a 50hz option. That’s the best overall solution I’ve found. This motion is now better than my tv can do with it’s internal motion smoothing.
Also, I have a 120hz tv so it can actually interpolate the 50hz up even higher so I use that as well. Artifacts are minimal and pans are smooth. It’s not as perfect as natively shot HFR obviously, but it’s much closer.
I should also add I’m going to try apollo instead of chronos and do the shutter encoder to 25fps and then go to 50fps or even 100. I think the jerkiness of apollo will go away hopefully. Apollo has less artifacts than chronos so we’ll see.
Yeah I’m never using 2 pass method again. 2x apollo or chronos is the way to go.
Apollo is far superior after further testing. No comparison. All the jitteriness is gone when you go 2x or 4x
