Artefacts

Hi,

I’ve been using Topaz Video to stabilize and slow mo a video clip but there appear strange artifacts in the motion of the subject.

I have tried different AI models one is better than the other but they are still there!

In the video there is a leopard and the spots in it’s fur, it looks like some parts in de frame lags behind.

Please advice, I’m gladly to share the clip and the results (6 sec.)

With kind regards.

Louis Jonckheere

This sounds like the model is having a hard time locking on the details in the spots and interpolating the movement correctly. If you can share a clip, we can take a look and see if there are some options here.

comes it from stabilization or frame interpolation or combination of both? Maybe try just doing one of the two.

Hi,

I’ve done a re-run with only slowmo :

The source is already a 4k video at 30 fs.

But as you can see there is still an artefact in the output!

regards, Loud

Hi,

I’ve tested the file now with every AI model and the results (only slow mo 3x) were all the same except! the Aion AI Model there were NO artefacts :+1:

Thanks for your support.

Ok, then you could try something completely different. Install TVAI V5.3.6, which was the latest version before Topaz implemented MPlayer. Many users have been using this version for a long time because, starting with MPlayer, there were issues that caused the output to have variable frame rates.

You can install any version of TVAI alongside Video Studio. If the problem occurs there as well, then it’s been there all along, which means the issue is with the models themselves and such content

Aion will be the better of the frame interpolation models here considering the source content. Trying to also apply stabilization and locking down the pixels is where the model is having a hard time with the patterns and texture. This might be one of the situations where a little bit of lighter settings helps retain the natural movement and detail of the video. When the models are trying too hard it can create the artifacts like you are seeing.

Mayday’s suggestion of going back to an older version might help as well if some of the issues are coming from the variable frame rate situation.

Otherwise, a combination of some slight adjustments with Topaz Video and then further editing in a traditional video editor with non-AI effects could be the way to go.
