Additional CPU Support | Snapdragon

Our development team is actively working on support for these types of machines! While the support team cannot put a definitive timescale on when the Snapdragon machine will be fully supported, I can assure you that the developers are hard at work trying to accommodate this new technology.

I can say that on our side, towards the end of December, we were given a rough estimate of about 3 months. It’s hard to know as this completely new architecture can end up having issues when being tested, and this is why it’s only an estimate. If issues arise during internal testing, it can be longer, but it is most certainly in the works!

yeah atm im struggling to between weather i should try and get photoAI to work on Linux via Wine or
wait for this support for it and get the Surface 11 with the above mentioned processor.

i wonder if them anouncing an android app version it does mean they are close as i assume the android app would require other types of Snapdragon chips.

sorry ment to reply to the top post not this one but this forum is kinda confusing.

@john.topazlabs - please add me to the list of beta customers for Snapdragon.

Beyond the ARM architecture I’m hoping Topaz Labs engineers will also start leveraging the NPU that is now a part of current cpu offerings. Current NPU’s are not as powerful as today’s GPU’s but they will get better. Before long every client system will have an NPU but they may or may not have a GPU. I would love to see us have the option of leveraging either the NPU or GPU.

Regarding your request to leverage either the NPU or GPU, it’s a great suggestion! As NPUs continue to improve, they could offer a more efficient and power-saving alternative to GPUs for certain AI tasks, and offering the option to leverage either hardware would allow users to choose based on their system’s capabilities.

Currently, most AI applications, including those from Topaz Labs, are optimized for GPUs due to their higher performance. However, with the growing adoption of NPUs in client systems, it’s definitely an exciting area for future development.

I would recommend creating a separate post in the Ideas section to be reviewed by the development team for additional votes

You can find this suggestion for NPU support at the link below

Hi,

I just got a new Surface Laptop 7 with the Snapdragon X processor, but I was wondering if Topaz plans to add support in the form of ARM binaries? Is it possible to take advantage of the NPU to accelerate the work? I’m a customer of Gigapixel, so it would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

The installer itself checks for native AVX support on the cpu. I would not be surprised if once instaled it would actually run, since Windows can emulate that support.

Yeah, there is indeed the Prism emulation, but that appears to be more inefficient than a native binary, especially in terms of battery life and performance.

it’s not much at this point but Topaz Labs customer support said they’re looking into it. so at least it’s not a definitive no.

So I tried installing Gigapixel AI on my Surface Laptop, and it would not because it could not detect a CPU with AVX support.

would love to see ARM versions of these software. while Denoise AI and Sharpen AI work, Gigapixel doesn’t.

Older gigapixel versions do work as well

Like 6.3?

Trying to find an installer, but they don’t seem to make it easy.

Denoise works but is DREADFULLY slow, 5 to 7 minutes per CR3 rawfile on my Vivobook S15 with 32gb ram, a native version of Topaz AI and I would upgrade to it

BTW Adobe AI denoise is not any better

Would be awesome to hear from Topaz about when to expect something / anything. Is an ARM version a huge amount of work so it will be some time? Just a recompile and test? Please talk to us.

I recently purchased a Surface laptop for photo editing on my travels and was dismayed to find that I cannot install LR Classic or any Topaz items. I was not aware that the Snapdragon X Elite would not support them. LR itself will install but not Classic. Any way round this?? Barry B.

Also have a Surface Laptop with ARM64 and hoping that Topaz will let us know if there might be a native ARM64 version of their products coming down the road.

In the same boat. Was hoping Topaz could at least run in emulation mode, but cannot install.

Some information from Topaz on a timeline for support would be greatly appreciated

Anyone have any suggestions for an alternative to Topaz that will run on ARM (Snapdragon)? I bought a new Surface because my Surface Pro 4 could no longer handle Topaz upgrades. Imagine my surprise when I learned that my new Surface can’t handle them either! Buying a new computer is out, so I’m looking for a replacement for Topaz that’s a bit more customer-considerate.

I’d like this too for sure! I will buy a license in a heartbeat if it can run on my new Galaxy Book4 Edge.
Even if there is no GPU/NPU acceleration and slower initially, I don’t mind…

Once you have used these new Snapdragon ARM laptops, you will not go back.

Pretty please make a fix!
