The video files I work with have a variety of frames per second. I never want to change the FPS from the original.
If I import a video and the FPS differs from the one before it, this automatically triggers the interpolation filter. I have to manually turn it off as well as change the FPS back to the original. I do this over and over, and it is tedious.
It would be great if FPS under Preferences could have “Same as Original” as a default image sequence.
Likewise, when saving a preset, it should be possible to save the FPS as “Same as Original.”
I stumbled over exactly the same problem. The price of not being aware of it was a few hours of worthless exports, because unexpected frame rate conversion took place.
In my view this isn’t missing feature, but a bug.
Theoretically, it is possible to save a preset with with frame rate “same as original” (at least it seems obvious that “(Original)” means exactly that).
However, it isn’t always restored as expected. To reproduce, save a preset with the frame rate settings shown above, restart Video AI, import a clip with 30 fps and restore the saved preset. You will see that frame rate conversion to 25 fps is forced:
When switching this to 30 fps manually, it automatically enables frame rate conversion on the panel, which makes no sense, becasue 30 fps is the original frame rate.
“Image sequence FPS” doesn’t do anything unless the default import type is changed from video to a set of still images. I think setting a default video FPS would require adding an additional drop-down.
I don’t know where to find the parameter “Image Sequence FPS” , but the field “Frame Rate” shown in my screenshot above (it’s below “Output Resolution” on the Panel “Video”) affects the export frame rate of video material meaning i.e. if it doesn’t show (“Original”) it performs frame rate conversion.
Is there a comprehensive manual that describe how all that is supposed to work and interact with other settings?
It’s in Preferences/Import. If you’re importing a batch of still images for TVAI to create a video from, this setting sets the default FPS for the video. It has nothing to do with importing videos.
With V4.1.1, it seems that the requested feature is implemented or, for those who think it was a bug, it is fixed. When saving a preset with frame rate showing “(Original)” and applying it to other clips, it will show the frame rate of the current clip in focus and not the frame rate of the clip it has been saved with (as it was before), at least with all clips with standard frame rates from 23.976 to 60 fps I have tried it with.
