Version 5.3.3 has been working flawlessly here so far. I am using TVAI in restoration of 8mm home movies from the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s. It’s a work in progress, but here is my workflow that works pretty well:
- Capture scanned frames as 2028 x 1520 raw DNG files using a Raspberry Pi and the HQ Camera.
- Use After Effects to color grade and adjust as necessary, then render as a PNG file sequence at 30 fps. (The actual frame rate of the original 8mm is 15 fps)
- In TVAI, Proteus detail 52, sharpness 22, noise 85, focus strong, frame rate 60 fps, slow motion 2x, Chronos, sensitivity 0, stabilize strength 35, whole frame, motion deblur on. Render to Prores 422.
- Next pass in After Effects (or TVAI) scale to 1080p and save as H.265 mp4
I will do a bit more delving to see if scaling from 2028x1520 to 1920x1080 on the first pass in After Effects makes any difference in the TVAI results. It is likely there will be time saved in TVAI as well as the second pass can be eliminated, as I can save out to H.265 directly from TVAI. Remains to be seen.
