5090 gpu keeps crashing topaz and screen goes black

i think its because its temp reaching 90 C, how to prevent this?

Sounds like a faulty card.

You can easily limit temperature using MSI Afterburner, which will in turn limit power at the temperature you set.

It sounds like your system cooling isn’t very good, but the 5090 should just throttle at 90°C, not crash. If you have a dual monitor setup with the 572.XX drivers, it could be an issue.

when i try to use msi afterburner and change the gpu to the 5090 on its UI, the application just closes

I would try uninstalling Afterburner, then reinstalling without the statistics server part of the application.

Also you’ll probably have to use the latest beta version of Afterburner with the 5090.

My 4090 had sudden black screen issues with the original 4 on 1 Nvidia adapter type “octopus”. After replacing the entire cable and Nvidia adapter by a beQuiet power cord the issues were gone.

Second time, faulty card.

you mean the one that connects to 4 pcie cables to the pcu?

yeah im probably going to return it

I replaced the entire power cord of the graphics card. That helped. For half a year I thought my gpu is faulty but it was the power cord and/or nvidia adapter.

The newer RTX 5000 series did have reports of faulty wiring and I have seen a few cases of users getting bad cards and they were able to swap them out from the store they purchased them from under warranty.

i was able to get around this by lowering the power usage to 80% and voltage to 80%, does that mean my card is bad?

for some people this helpeed with the 4090 as well, but my first attempt would be to replace the entire power cable of the gpu.

Might not be a bad card but as Imo shared check the wiring as that’s a fairly easy fix and could prevent the card from having issues later.

There is a new driver release from Nvidia as well as of today that might help.

You can also run a stress test on the GPU with the FurMark app to see how it runs.
